I've been in church since nine months before I entered into the world. Same church, same people. I had always loved hearing the Bible stories in Sunday school and coloring the little characters. We were always taught that we would of course go to Hell if we died without Jesus in our hearts, but I never fully understood that until I was about 7 years old. It scared the devil out of me, literally. We had VBS that week, and a man named Rusty Edwards was preaching each night. I basically just went about my 7 year old business all week until Friday night. I remember on Friday, Brother Edwards told it like it was. In his conclusion he asked the congregation whether or not we'd be in heaven or hell when we died. God quickly let me know, Tatum you're lost, and if you died right now you'd wake up in Hell. As a young girl this scared me to the max. Who is stupid enough to want to burn in Hell, rather than accept the free gift of salvation?? So, I grabbed my Teacher, also known as my current pastors wife, and asked how I could receive the Lord as my Savior. On August 29, 2008, I received Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and have yet to regret it! And yes once saved, ALWAYS saved. He is and will always be the best thing that ever happened to me.
I hope this helped someone! I'm preaching to myself here too. We get so caught up with our daily lives that we forget to spend time with our Father. Like I said earlier: THIS IS THE BEST LIFE!! If you're not sure about your salvation, please don't hesitate to email me: TatumChavis@gmail.com. Thanks for reading! :)
Now, this does not mean I've always lived how I should for Him. But, I'm here to tell you it's not the hardest thing to do, unless YOU make it hard. In today's world, it can be a little discouraging to not be "up to date", but honestly in the end, none of that will matter. I'll not lie, music has always been a problem for me. So many people say: "it doesn't bother me really, I can serve God and listen to what I want." NO, You can't! I know from experience that the music this world offers puts a wordly and ungodly spirit inside of you that can be SO hard to rid of. Some people say they can't make it without the music. Well, take 2 Chronicles 7:6 into consideration each time you're tempted. It says they played music of the Lord that David made to praise the Lord, because his mercy endureth FOREVER. This is the reason Christians should listen to Godly music. Number one it pleases the Lord, and number two, He's been too good to us. The least we could do is listen to music that praises Him.
One of the most essential things in a Christians life is fellowship with God. What do I mean by this? Prayer. How can you stay strong if you don't ask God for strength? How can you resist temptation if you don't ask God to help you? To me, it's important to pray before I start my day. This not only helps me grow closer to the savior, but it helps my attitude. Seeking God first thing in the morning helps your whole day go by so smoothly. My tongue can get the best of me sometimes, but asking God to help me think before I speak HELPS! Before I go to say something that's not gonna sound too good the holy spirit says HUSH IT haha! Don't you just love how he speaks like that? I know we can't see God (yet), but he does speak to us. And boy, God sure has a sense of humor! Another reason this is THE BEST LIFE. If you read my blogs you know I say that at the ending of almost every blog. It's the truth. We have a long suffering, forgiving, loving, caring, and HUMOROUS GOD!
While prayer is essential, reading your Bible is what's gonna help you grow. Through God's word we learn how to live our best life for Him. I know from experience that it can be hard sometimes to "make" yourself read. Your flesh gets weak and you just don't feel like it. This is when we have to remember how important that book is to our life. One day without it can mess you up. I just think that's so crazy. I've experienced this in my own life before. You quit reading, quit praying, and from there things go downhill. You go back to doing what you used to. How can one book have so much power over someone? I can't wrap my mind around it.
