Hey Y'all! It's been a few weeks since I last blogged, and I am SO SORRY!! With the Holidays rolling around it's been pretty busy. These past few weeks I've been studying about a woman named Deborah from the book of Judges. Some may know who I'm talking about, and some may not. My Pastor has been going through the book of Judges on Wednesday nights, and I absolutely love it! A few weeks ago we got to the story of Deborah and Barak. I had already been thinking about doing a study on a woman in the Bible, and then God told me she was my woman! So, I read, studied, and researched, and now I'm gonna share with y'all what God gave me.
If you know anything about the book of Judges, you know it's all about Israel's up and down life of serving the Lord. One day they wanted to do right, and the next they were right back to sinning. So, God raised up these Judges to lead them. In chapter 4, God raises up a woman Judge named Deborah. Just like always, I looked up some definitions. Deborah's name means "bee", and besides the insect definition for this word, it means an outstanding good person or thing. Obviously Deborah was pretty outstanding and good for God to make her a Judge! God calls Deborah in verse 4, but the verse I really want to focus on right now is verse 5. The first part of the verse says "And she dwelt under the palm tree or Deborah". I looked up the definition of "palm tree", and was amazed with what I found. Some people probably already knew, but I didn't. One of the definitions for palm tree is "victory over the spirit of the flesh". WOW! I began to cry as I read the verse over again. It says that she sat under the palm tree OF DEBORAH. It wasn't just any old palm tree, that was DEBORAH'S PALM TREE! That tree was a symbol of Deborah's victory over sin. I thank God for giving me victory over some of my past sins. I will never stop telling people how influential music is! That was the BIG thing holding me back from serving God with my full potential. Praise God, life is so much better now!
The second part of verse 5 says "and the children of Israel came up to her for judgement." A judge is someone who can give an authoritative opinion. A Judge is a leader. Why could Deborah be a Judge? Deborah was a leader for Christ. Because of the fact that she had victory over sin, she could lead others in the right direction. Deborah was there to give others a "palm tree". This just shows us girls, young ladies, and women, that we can be leaders too. I strive to be a leader to the young ladies at my church. But, in order to even consider being a leader, you must first follow God. Deborah followed God. For a modern day christian this means: Prayer, Bible reading, Church, etc. I don't know about you, but if I go even a day without reading my Bible, I begin to stray. That's just one day though. Think about week 2, week 3, then a month. It is mandatory that we read God's word EVERYDAY in order to keep sweet fellowship with Him. I have fallen in love with Him and his word. They give me life and guidance every morning! My prayer is that God can use me to be a leader for Him.
I hope you get victory over your sin if you haven't. God will bless your decision, and life will be so much better. If you ever need someone to talk to please email me: Tatumchavis@gmail.com. I would gladly talk to you! As always, it is the BEST life! Thanks for reading! :)
